Art & Cocktails – Guided Tour Of Helm Art Gallery, Brighton: Review

Nestled in the heart of Brighton on North Road, Helm Gallery is a modern arts and exhibition centre spread over two floors, hosting fabulous art exhibitions, a rotating selection of carefully curated pieces, as well as a large exhibition hall for classes, experiences, workshops and shows.

The bright, open and spacious gallery is also home to a coffee area by day, and a cocktail bar by night, offering the perfect beverages to enjoy while you take in the art, or enjoy a regular scheduled event.

The Event: Art and Cocktails – A Guided Tour at Helm Art Gallery in Brighton

Showcasing the very best of both aspects of Helm Art Gallery, this sophisticated and indulgent night allowed guests to sample three sumptuous cocktails crafted by Bar Manager, Jade, while being guided through a range of fascinating artworks by Gallery Manager, Will.

The range of art styles and mediums used was captivating, from striking mirror work, neon art, textural work from reclaimed maps, and impressive graffiti art framed on train station fences. Will’s passion for the artworks shone through in his tour, and we were welcomed to ask questions and form our own opinions about each work.

Similarly, Jade’s passion for her carefully crafted cocktail creations was evident in her interesting walkthroughs of each cocktail’s ingredients, origins and even mythology, as well as in their delicious taste. The Apres-ski, a decadent blend of Bailey’s, Frangelico, Coffee Liqueur and quality vodka, topped with white chocolate shavings, is a truly masterful and indulgent creation.

We also enjoyed a tour of Magda Archer’s solo exhibition downstairs: a bubblegum pink room offering striking and eclectic work in bold colours, often married with witty and unexpected text. We also enjoyed the interactive exhibit: the ‘Your Wish’ Wishing Well.
