Hove Lawns

Brighton is famous for the sea and the pebble beach that lines it so beautifully. However, it cannot be denied that sitting on the pebbles to get a good look at the coastline might feel like too much of a price to pay. Hence, where else could you get a marvellous view from? The Hove Lawns. How so?

Hove Lawns: A Serene Alternative

As the name says, Hove Lawns is a stretch of lawns covered in green grass, stretched across the seaside in Hove. It is divided into two parts: Brunswick Lawns and King’s Lawns; however, while walking along it, one would not notice much of a divide.

The only noticeable divide is between the lawns and the sea by a walkway, free of vehicles. However, the lawns and the walkways in conjunction create the perfect seaside viewing experience—a road to walk along and green grass to lounge on.

As one walks along the sea, if they turn towards the opposite side, the houses along Kingsway don’t form a disappointing view either. Being so close to the sea allowed it to be the perfect front for a hydraulic line built underneath that provided sea water to nearby residents in the past. There were also shelters built on the lawns that were unfortunately blown away by storms, but their replicas now exist as memoirs of a time past.

As for its usefulness in the present, this 1.4-mile route is suitable for walks more so because of its flat terrain, which is said to have been sloping in the past. And once you get tired after walking and perhaps even hungry from the sea air, you can grab a quick bite at The Lawns Café.

The café provides almost everything from quick bites to drinks to a proper meal at very pocket-friendly prices. It might be called a café, but rest assured that with its outdoor seating arrangement, it won’t feel like the usual café you would choose to work at. Instead, it is a perfect corner to have a weekend picnic or a casual day out with a stunning view of Brighton Beach.

Recreation and Relaxation

The Lawns also serve as a great place to let your dogs play freely as well as your children to take in the fresh sea air without having to get themselves wet. As for someone taking a solo walk down the Lawns, from Brighton Boundary right down to Fourth Avenue, it won’t feel like you covered 3,500 steps at all.

I would personally recommend choosing a sunny day to visit the lawns, maybe even close to sunset. That will allow you to get in your daily exercise, sunlight, and fresh air all at the same time. The breathtaking view is a bonus too, of course.
