Soon you will be in the greatest seaside city of Brighton and with that come so many opportunities to try new things and food spots and meet a bunch of new people, which is both exciting and nerve-wracking. To make you feel a little more prepared before moving to Brighton, here is a list of things for you to look forward to and help you get familiar with the city.
A Happy Diverse Area
Brighton is very loud and proud in their celebrations of diversity and in more ways than one. You can expect to see pride flags all around this city, especially in the month of August when the pride parade hits Brighton. This is a very welcoming community and goes above and beyond through celebratory festivals and parties in local clubs to bring the community together throughout the year.
This is also a great tourist spot, an international student’s desired location and so much more! So no matter if you are a British citizen or a temporary visitor, you will be welcomed with open arms.
Royal Buildings
I mean, there is not a single thing like it anywhere else in the UK; the Royal Pavilion was built for George IV in the 1700s and its architecture is something similar to what you would find in India, which is fascinating. His love for Bristol made me label it as ‘London on the sea’ which is basically saying better than London in more ways than one. This once-holiday home for the prince has become an iconic landmark and is a great opportunity to get to see it up close and personal.
Artistic Place
Street art is not only common in Brighton but it’s outstanding the talent that we have in this city to create such masterpieces we can love and adore walking from street to street. It’s become such a hub for art that the likes of Banksy and their ‘Kissing Policeman’ piece is still here and has inspired small-town artists to contribute to the vibrant and colourful Brighton.
Friendly & Welcoming Traditions
While this might be controversial, there are certain traditions that attract a kind of outgoing and free-spirited individuals, which has led to their nudist bike ride as well as the burning of the clicks and something more for the families: a lantern parade and a bonfire for the winter solstice.
These are such unique traditions that are so close to the city of Brighton and I can’t think of many major cities in the UK that share this kind of family community where these traditions remain true and bring everyone closer together, no matter how odd some of them may seem.
Yummy Food Spots
From hipster coffee shops to the bright and colourful Prince Albert pub, you won’t be disappointed with the selection of food and drink. Not to mention, as a seaside city, you are guaranteed to get some of the best fish and chips right here and what’s more authentic than a chippy tea with a pot of curry? It’s also got a great selection for those who are vegan, veggie and international, which provides great variation.
