The best locations for an easy-going spring family holiday

Days are lengthening and the weather is finally warming! We’re entering the perfect season to escape from the everyday grind and enjoy some quality time together as a family. The challenge, however, is finding the right destination – one that allows you to relax without the stress of long-haul flights, packed schedules, or complex itineraries.

Luckily, whether you’re keen on a UK staycation or are thinking of venturing further into Europe, there are plenty that offer an easy-going experience for families.

Bournemouth, the relaxing coastal retreat

If you’d rather stay close to home, Bournemouth is a wonderful option for a small staycation. The seaside town on the south coast offers a combination of wide sandy beaches, mild spring weather, and plenty of attractions for families. Spend your days building sandcastles, taking walks along the promenade and soaking up the views of the sea! On top, Bournemouth’s Oceanarium is perfect for curious little ones. And after a day at the beach, you can unwind at one of Bournemouth’s many relaxed cafes.

Copenhagen, the perfect city break

The Danish capital might just be the answer if you want something easy-going, as it has a calm, welcoming atmosphere that’s perfect for families. With its wide boulevards and green spaces, it’s easy to get around, whether you choose to walk or cycle. It’s also home to the Tivoli Gardens, one of the world’s oldest amusement parks. It offers rides, games, and shows that the whole family can enjoy, all in a beautifully landscaped setting.

There are also plenty of parks and playgrounds, making it an ideal place for younger children to burn off some energy. When you need a break, you can stop by one of Copenhagen’s many restaurants, where you can sample delicious Danish pastries or try local dishes like smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches). Nom!

Barcelona, the fun in the sun

Seeking a vibrant but laid-back family holiday? Barcelona’s your city. You can wander through the whimsical Park Güell, designed by Antoni Gaudí, where children can run free and explore the colourful mosaics and quirky architecture. Or explore its beaches, perfect for relaxing, and plenty of space for kids to play in the sand. For a bit of interactive fun, visit the CosmoCaixa Science Museum, which has hands-on exhibits that kids will love. Barcelona’s easy-going atmosphere and mix of attractions make it an ideal place for families.

Florence, the cultured choice

Florence, Italy, offers a unique mix of culture and family-friendliness. While it’s known for its art and museums, it also provides plenty of opportunities for families to relax and have fun. Explore the city’s beautiful gardens, such as the Boboli Gardens, where you can enjoy a picnic or simply take in the scenery. Children will be fascinated by the city’s artistic heritage, with interactive museums like the Museo Galileo. And after that, simply treat your family to some authentic Italian pizza or pasta in a cosy restaurant. Perfect!

Florence’s manageable size makes it easy to see the sights without feeling rushed, and the atmosphere is relaxed, allowing you to take your time and enjoy the city’s charm.
