North Laines

The North Laines are a popular area of Brighton among tourists and locals alike and offer hundreds of establishments, including independent stores, cafes, bakeries, and restaurants that offer international cuisines as well as vegan and vegetarian options. Covering a relatively small area of Brighton, the North Laine is a bustling and colourful hub that captures the essence of

Brighton’s alternative and creative spirit with a bohemian twist. All we can say is that when shopping in the North Laine, expect to find a real mix of the ethnic, exotic, and funky, with anything from 50’s kitsch and muslin from Mesopotamia to furniture from Mexico.

If fashion is what you’re after, the North Laine in Brighton offers the serious style hound an impressive array of up-and-coming designers and vintage chic and vegetarian-friendly shoes. The North Laine is also home to stylish studios selling locally made jewellery, sculpture, ceramics, glass, metalwork, and paintings, as well as some interesting galleries. It’s THE PLACE if you’re looking for one-of-a-kind vintage items.

What’s more, it is a popular area for finding street art, especially if you head to Trafalgar Lane. Both sides of this street are filled with graffiti, which is ever-changing and adds charm to the streets. On the topic of the creative aspect of this neighbourhood, it is also a great place to experience live music, with many pubs and bars hosting local bands and musicians throughout the week.

While you’re there, we’d recommend exploring some antiques at Snoopers Paradise, grabbing a brownie from Cloud 9 or a doughnut from Crosstown, and giving some unique tea a try at Bird & Blend before heading to Komedia for a movie or a night filled with laughter. And if you’re hungry after your time at Komedia, why not grab some pizza at Fatto a Mano?

If you find yourself visiting Brighton or you live here, the North Laines are definitely an area you need to visit. If you’re out and about on a Saturday, make sure to head to 1 Upper Gardner Street (next to GAK), where you can find the Saturday Outdoor Flea Market, which sells clothes, food, and other trinkets. We promise you’ll love it!
