I attended the evening session on the 1st of February 2024 and loved every second of it. I was greeted warmly by the facilitator, Artist Maureen Wells, and the staff at Helm. The artist takes great care in briefing you about the topic for the session and how we are to begin painting.

For this session, the topic was ‘exotic flowers’ and there was a range of reference images to choose from. Although the images may look daunting for beginner artists or those who occasionally pick up a brush as a hobby, such as myself, you can play around with elements from the images and practice your style.
However, Maureen was always there to guide each of us through the process. She navigated her way around the table, paying attention to the work of all seven of us who were present and suggesting brush choices, brush strokes, colours, and techniques to simply add a professional touch to our leisurely solo masterpieces.
Not only that but there was positive encouragement regarding our art styles and choices throughout the workshop. It also made me realise that attending such events is good for self-development because of the interactions I had with fellow painters. Hence, it is suitable for a solo date as well as an activity you would like to take your friend or partner to.
Helm offered a house wine or lager or even a non-alcoholic option for the Sip and Paint participants. It also provided a warm, welcoming, and inspiring space for artists and art enthusiasts alike.
