Rotunda Comedy Night February 2024: A Review

On the last Wednesday of every month, the iconic Rotunda Café and Bar in Preston Park opens its doors for a night of top-notch comedy from established and up-and-coming comedians at Rotunda Comedy Club.

I had the pleasure of attending Rotunda Comedy at the iconic Rotunda cafe in February for a night of great ambience and even better humour. The night consisted of four comedians and the event was well run with a natural flow to it.

Now the acts, Javier Jarguin, Laura Lexx, Peter Brush and Tom Ward, wow! They did not disappoint. This was my first ever comedy show, I had somewhat avoided them up to this point out of fear the whole thing would be a bit awkward but oh was I wrong.

Every single act had me laughing out loud almost non-stop, the event start to finish was a great experience.

Javier’s job was to introduce all the acts but would stay long enough to give us some of his own content which built a fun and lively atmosphere for the following guest.

Laura and Peter were both hilarious in their own ways; Laura had an upbeat presence and used most of the stage, whereas Peter had a more dry standstill act, which conveyed the sort of humour he was going for.

Tom Ward was the final act and similarly to Laura had a lively stage presence meaning the night ended on a high, again his performance was hilarious with a great level of audience engagement.

Rotunda is situated in Preston Park, a lovely open park space a little out of the fast-paced city centre. Appropriately called Rotunda it had a circular ground plan covered by a dome, with an interesting exterior and beautiful interior.

The semi-circle stage was a great size and had warm lighting and decor such as sofas and curtains which created a welcoming environment. The event felt cosy as the relatively large audience fit comfortably into the rotunda with an active bar to one side. The atmosphere was at Rotunda Comedy Club fun and lighthearted. I will be back!
