On the last Wednesday of every month, the iconic Rotunda Café and Bar in Preston Park opens its doors for a night of top-notch comedy from established and up-and-coming comedians. This is a relatively new event, with the first-ever Rotunda Comedy Night taking place in October 2023, and its roaring success suggests many more amazing comedy nights await.
The Rotunda Comedy Night Venue:
Located in the beautiful Rose Garden of Preston Park, Rotunda Café and Bar is an iconic venue dating back to 1929. By day, it offers breakfast, brunch, lunch and tea as well as a range of cakes and pastries. When Rotunda Comedy Night rolls around, however, the venue transforms into a beautiful, softly lit space, with candlelit tables, luxurious plants and a large stage to showcase the talent.
The Vibe of Rotunda Comedy Night:
The evening was relaxed and informal, with a well-stocked bar offering a range of soft and alcoholic drinks, as well as freshly cooked, gluten-free loaded fries, ranging from fries tossed in parmesan cheese, parsley and garlic mayo, to Asian-spiced fries with wasabi, vegan siracha mayo and seaweed.
Our fabulous host put us all at ease straight away and got us excited for the night ahead with some hilarious audience participation (beware the front row if that’s not your bag!) Afterwards, we were treated to three quality acts in addition to our compere/host, each of which treated us to very different but equally hilarious styles of stand-up. We felt in safe hands throughout the night and fully relaxed into a night of cracking comedy.
The Verdict:
Not one to be missed! With a sophisticated ambience, cracking street food and a well-stocked bar, as well as the best in live stand-up comedy, Rotunda Comedy Night is one to put in your diaries. It could be said that it’s one of the best things to do in Brighton on the last Wednesday evening of every month. Please note doors open at 7 pm and the show starts at 8 pm.
