Sounds Familiar Music Quiz In Brighton: Review

Describing itself as ‘the party disguised as a quiz,’ Sounds Familiar Music Quiz in Brighton is not your everyday pub quiz experience. Instead, we were treated to three hours of blasting feel-good tunes, party vibes and inflatable microphones.

Brighton is all about the music: Sounds Familiar Music Quiz

SFMQ takes place across the country, with experiences in London, Dartford, Brighton, Hull and Margate. We joined at The North Laine Brewhouse in Brighton: a spacious and trendy pub offering fresh street food, seasonal drinks and classic draught ales, beer and cider.

The Vibe

On arrival, we grabbed a drink and joined the other party/quiz-goers in choosing our team name, with a list of pre-vetoed overused names, such as Quizzy Rascal. After a brief introduction from our friendly and enthusiastic host, the quiz kicked off with a mashup round.

Microphones inflated, we sang along to the epic tunes (and tried to score some points along the way) in categories like Keyboard Warriors, from artists with piano prowess, Number Twos, where the songs only placed second in the charts, and the Double Helping of Cheese, with non-stop cheesy bangers.

Although it was definitely more a party than a quiz, and the volume was more club than pub level, the evening was enjoyed by an eclectic mix of people, from young couples to families and senior competitors.  With prizes awarded to winners, losers and the best-named team, the evening ended with a bang and a chance to boogie sans-questions.

The Verdict

If you take your quizzing seriously, or you’re after a quiet and refined chance to showcase your music knowledge, this might not be the event for you. If, however, you’re after a night of non-stop iconic tunes to sing along to and guess at with a gang, then head on over to Sounds Familiar Music Quiz in Brighton.

Prices: £12pp.
