Lots of news to bring you today from the world of football as our famous team has been busy in the transfer market and also managed to navigate the second round of the Carabao Cup with relative ease. Unsurprisingly the experts that offer the best bookmaker bonuses have predicted that The Seagulls have a 3/1 chance of finishing in the top six of the Premier League this season, and with a summer of fantastic signings and a strong start to the campaign, it is easy to see why this is the case.
Agony For O’riley
We are going to start with some bad news unfortunately as Brighton’s new boy Matt O’Reilly was injured by a horror tackle early on in his club debut against Crawley Town. The former Celtic man was sythed down after just ten minutes of play by Crawley captain Jay Williams. It was an off place to make such a rash challenge and infuriated the Brighton bench as well as the home fans that attended the game on Tuesday night.
Crawley Town boss Scott Lindsey even went as far as to apologise for the incident stating: “Maybe we were a bit aggressive, maybe the referee missed it (the challenge) and I would like to apologise.
“I wouldn’t want anyone to be hurt. We are both passionate about the game and we wish Brighton all the best in the next round.”
The Seagulls head coach Hurzeler played down the suggestions that Crawley was too aggressive in the game, saying: “You have to accept it is their way of playing.” Both managers were booked as the game boiled over in the later stages but they seemed to put their differences behind them at the final whistle and were seen shaking hands.
Hurzeler was however critical of the challenge when speaking to the media commenting: ” It was a Ridiculous foul. It had nothing to do with football. It changed the game because afterwards, it got very emotional.”
A Win In Round Two
Other than the injury worries it was a routine night for the boys at the Amex in the end. The 4 nil scoreline was justified at full time but Crawley Town did have some great chances in the first period and Albion was under some pressure. They even put the ball in the back of the net but were denied a goal by the offside flag being raised by the assistant referee. Crawley continued to press, and their best chance fell to Josh Flint, who advanced from defence but saw his shot saved.
it was Brighton who struck first however, The Seagulls took the lead when Adingra connected with a precise through ball from Carlos Baleba, finishing calmly for his second goal of the season. Ecuadorian winger Sarmiento extended the lead early in the second half, blasting the ball into the top corner after a sharp turn and run by Julio Enciso, marking his first goal for Brighton.
Crawley had additional opportunities but failed to make the most of them. Late in the game, Webster headed in from a corner to make it three, and the 19-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-21 international O’Mahony added a fourth after winning possession high up the pitch, also scoring his first goal for Brighton.
Before the match, Turkey international Ferdi Kadioglu was introduced to the fans following his £25m transfer from Fenerbahce, though the night was dampened somewhat by O’Riley’s injury.
