The Premier League got back underway this weekend and there were some decent games overall. It is fair to say not one particular team blew me away, but it is early days so nobody will have found their rhythm just yet. City and Arsenal still looked very good, but I am expecting both sides to go up a few gears as the games progress and we get further into the season. Anyway less of me rambling on let’s take a look at some of the key fixtures from Saturday and also discuss football predictions from all over the world.
Everton 0 – 3 Brighton & Hove Albion
Predictably we are going to start with our lads from the Amex, as they started the season superbly with a demolition of Everton at Goodison Park. The Seagulls dominated the game and played the mersyside outfit of the park. The game was over at 2 nil with Kaoru Mitoma and Danny Welbeck getting on the score sheet, but the game was then finished beyond any reasonable doubt after Ashley Young saw red in the 66th minute. Following the red card Brighton added one more to their tally through a fine effort from Simon Adingra.
This result puts The Seagulls at the top of the Premier League, and although it is only the first game I feel the fanbase should be allowed to enjoy and have some fun with that one before the next game kicks off.
Brentford 2 – 1 Crystal Palace
Now onto Sunday’s action where (to the obvious joy of the Brighton faithful) Crystal Palace fell to defeat at the hands of Brentford. It was a close game at the Gtech, and to be fair to Palace they had slightly more control of the game than their London counterparts leading in the possession stats and also had more shots on goal than the hosts.
It wasn’t to be Palace day though as with the game finally poised at one all Yoane Wissa managed to bang one into the back of the net with a quarter of an hour left to play in normal time After this Palace did push for an equaliser, but Brentford stood firm and managed to hang on to take all three points.
Arsenal 2 – 0 Wolves
The Gunners continued where they left off from last season with a routine win at home. Wolves showed a few signs that they can play this season, but Arsenal were comfortable throughout the game and ran out deserving winners. It was the Usual suspects Kai Haverts and Saka who netted for Arsenal and they now go on to the next game where they will face a much tougher test away at Villa Park.
Next up for Brighton is the visit of Manchester United. United played okay against Fulham and probably deserved to win the game but you would feel that Albion will go into this game as favourites being the home side. Hopefully, it’s 3 more goals and 3 more points for The Seagulls.
