The Seagulls have an incredible record when it comes to buying and developing young talent and selling them on for a profit. Many of these players have had a significant impact on their success on and off the field over recent seasons.
In an era where some clubs are struggling to make ends meet, and others to even meet financial regulations, Brighton is a shining example of club and player management. In 2024, they announced the biggest annual profit in Premier League history. Transfers out had a big part to play here, many of them young prodigies.
But where are they now?
Moisés Caicedo
The Ecuadorian is up there with some of the most expensive Premier League signings of all time. The initial transfer fee paid by Chelsea for Caicedo was £100 million, with add-ons worth up to £15 million.
Moisés’ start to life at the Blues has been turbulent with new owners chopping and changing managers. Despite hundreds of millions invested over the last few seasons, Chelsea haven’t hit the heights expected. Caicedo has admitted to feeling the pressure of his transfer fee but looks to be enjoying his start to the new season with Chelsea.
Marc Cucurella
Another transfer to Chelsea, Marc Cucurella has solidified his position at left-back for the Blues in the last two seasons. He’s been one of the more regular features of a Chelsea team that’s undergone significant transformation.
His most impressive accolades have actually come from international duty since he departed from Brighton. He was a core member of the Spain team that took home the trophy at UEFA Euro 2024.
Ben White
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side has continued to grow and flourish in recent years, finishing second in both of the last two seasons. Ben White was a key signing for him and remains a versatile member of the team’s solid defence.
White signed a new four-year contract at the start of 2024, committing to the club that showed faith in him at 23 years of age. Will he help Arsenal to their first league title in over two decades?
Alexis Mac Allister
World-cup winner Alexis Mac Allister was snapped up by Liverpool over the summer, in an initial deal worth £35 million – said to be an excellent deal by many. He seems to be loving life at Anfield and in a side that’s playing well and winning across all competitions.
The Argentinian has joined forces with the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch in Arne Slot’s new-look Liverpool midfield. And what a midfield it’s turning out to be!
Leandro Trossard
One of the older transfers away from Brighton, Leandro Trossard has added some much-needed depth to the Gunners squad. He was another addition made by Mikel Arteta in his bid to overthrow the dominant City.
The Belgian has become a fan favourite at the Emirates, scoring vital goals and currently playing an integral role in the absence of Martin Ødegaard. Will he also help Arsenal to the Premier League title?
