Freedom Leisure is a not-for-profit charitable leisure and cultural trust, with over 100 venues across the UK. Three of their sites in Brighton offer squash facilities, so you’ll be spoiled for choice when finding the perfect court for you: Withdean Sports Complex, Portslade Leisure Centre and Stanley Deason Sports Centre all offer fantastic courts, open to both beginners and advanced squashers of all ages.

Withdean Sports Complex is Freedom Leisure’s largest site in Brighton and Hove and is located in the heart of Brighton. For those further out, Portslade Sports Centre and Stanley Deason Leisure Centre also offer excellent facilities, suitable for players of all ages and abilities. Whichever venue you choose, Freedom Leisure is the perfect way to get stuck into the centre court and return those serves.

Hardcore squashers will be sure to enjoy the ‘all-you-can-squash’ membership, giving access to all club nights, and team games and access to two bookable courts a day, across each of the three squash venues in Brighton. It comes in at under £36 a month and is the perfect option for the passionate squash player.

Brighton Squash Club

Withdean Sports Complex is home to Brighton Squash Club, an experienced and welcoming club open to all levels and abilities. In addition to open-access group sessions, and regular club matches, Brighton Squash Club also offer 1:1 coaching from expert squash coaches.

Open sessions are available every Wednesday and Sunday evening and are the perfect way to dip your toe in the world of squash or to hone your service skills. Sessions run between 6:20 and 8 pm, and cost just £5 on the door!

Expect to play a series of 20-minute games, against opponents matched to your skill level, to ensure you get the most out of your sessions. So, no need to bring a partner or book in advance, giving you total flexibility.

Membership of the club (excluding court time) is just £4 a month, including membership with England Squash, and access to all of the organized events, internal leagues, the club bar and social events!

Don’t forget the social side too, with Brighton Squash Club being a great way to meet fellow squash enthusiasts and get together for a glass of… squash (or something stronger!)

Brighton LGBTQ+ Sports Society Squash Group

Brighton LGBTQ+ Sports Society (BLAGSS) is a sports and social group comprising almost 500 members, of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and Queer community from across Brighton and Hove and the wider Sussex area.

Open to people of all ages, abilities and walks of life, BLAGGS aims to provide a safe, inclusive and supportive environment in which LGBTQ+ people can play sports, socialise and meet new people.

Among the 15 sports on offer is, of course, squash! BLAGGS Squash Group meet weekly at Withdean Leisure Centre, usually on a Tuesday evening. This mixed-ability group is open to all levels and players, meaning any and all are welcome!

Your first session with BLAGGS is free, making it the perfect way to discover if volleying is for you in a pressure-free environment. And once you’re hooked, the following sessions are just £5.34 each, for around 80 minutes of squash time. Whatever your walk of life, you are sure to fit right in and be shooting and scoring left right and centre.

University of Sussex Sport Centre

Located at the University of Sussex, the Sport Centre offers a fitness room and indoor sports halls.

Open to students, alumni, and the general public, a 40-minute squash session can be booked on a drop-in, no-commitment basis. Student members can use the courts from £4 a session and with a public membership the price drops to £5 for off-peak and £6.50 for peak, making the Sport Centre a great way to practice your squash skills on a casual basis. Non-members are also welcome, for as little as £8.

So, whether you just want to drop in and give it a go, or regularly rack up your racquet time, the Sport Centre is a great way to get stuck into squash.
