The Brighton Lights Review: One Garden At Stanmer Park

On a drizzly day just before Christmas, the rain somewhat magically cleared for an evening of illumination at One Garden Brighton. The Brighton Lights is a winter light installation at Stanmer Park’s walled garden and offers an ethereal festive experience under a crescent moon and stars on Tuesday.

Colourful lights filtering through the trees beckoned us into the garden as cheery staff draped in fairy lights ushered visitors along the path for a sparkling adventure. The Brighton Lights have been curated by local artists and aim to celebrate the creative spirit of the city.

This experience is not only about light but also sound. In one corner, there was a live performance of lullabies by a singer in a light-filled coat, then, the chance to take a photo sitting on a moon light before the opportunity to rest on a bean bag while listening to bedtime whispers.

Halfway through, we reached the bustling hub of One Garden where mulled wine, cider, hot chocolates and Christmas treats were on offer. As part of the Christmas offering, there were also food trucks and a stage with entertainment.

There were lots of children dancing as two brilliant singers treated us to a rendition of “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” People dressed as a glowing caterpillar and mushroom also made things fun.

Onwards, and the second half of the experience was just as enticing. There were surprises around every corner and some rather impressive glitter balls. Other particular highlights included a sign language light installation by Martin Glover.

If you’re after some Instagrammable photo opportunities then you won’t be disappointed. Make sure you don’t miss out on The Brighton Lights as the show only runs for a few more days. Fun for all the family and people of all ages.

Tickets are still available up until 23rd December with timeslots running throughout the day: https://www.onegardenbrighton.com/explore/one-events/brighton-light/
