Tom Allen at Brighton Dome: Review

When it comes to things to do in Brighton, there’s no doubt that a trip to the Dome is firmly on the list. This epic regency building doubles as an events venue for top-quality theatre, music and dance shows, as well as the iconic annual Brighton Festival. Big names and new talent alike have their moment on the stage here.

One such big name currently dazzling Brighton with his new tour – Completely – is Tom Allen, known for his roles on The Apprentice: You’re Fired, Bake Off: The Professionals, and much more.

After a warm welcome from Tom Allen himself, we enjoyed hilarious support from Dinesh Nathan. His tongue-in-cheek explorations of parenthood, life in an Asian family and mistaken identity had us thoroughly entertained.

Allen’s return saw him chatting with unsuspecting audience members in quick-witted improv, to the amusement (and embarrassment) of his participants/victims.

Allen’s turbulent rollercoaster of a show guides us through the trials and tribulations of modern life: from the woes of bin day to online checks that you’re not a robot, by a robot, and from memory foam mishaps to moving tales from memory lane, Allen had us captivated from start to finish.

This lightning-fast observational comedy is masterfully juxtaposed with childhood reminiscence. Whether he is recounting the anxiety caused by an overdue library book, or stumbling upon an alleyway couple in flagrante delicto, Allen’s flamboyant fabulousness and eccentric intonation make for a mesmerising experience.

Tom Allen is performing his show Completely across the UK and Ireland until June 2024 (the performance in Brighton took place on the 13th of October 2023). Tour dates and tickets available here: https://tomindeed.com/tour-dates/

From the moment she got off the train, she knew Brighton was the place for her, and she's loved every minute of living in the city. Although she's been a keen writer for as long as she's been able to hold a pen, she joined the content team in June 2023. Hannah loves to gush about all the best bits of Brighton!
