Tommy Scott @ The Brunswick In Brighton: Review and Interview

25 years of touring for Tommy Scott has culminated on the current tour, making a stop at a local gem of live music, The Brunswick in Hove. 25 years is a long time, which is why we were
especially excited to ask Tommy some questions.

How does the man himself feel about this tour?

“Thrilled to be on our 25th anniversary tour,” he says, “it’s been great playing all the old tunes and lots of other songs I’ve done over the years.”

These shows are a lot more intimate, Scott adds he has “enjoyed playing the songs acoustically as well, fans love hearing them stripped down” and we couldn’t agree more!

Not only did the frontman come across as being in his element, but the audience absolutely adored the acoustic versions and the camaraderie they witnessed on stage.

Personally, I think that what a good group, or artist, boils down to is the communication during the show. With this gig, the communication and ease just shone through.

When asked about the feelings and thoughts behind this tour, and the nostalgia of it all, Tommy made sure to correct it’s not all that.

“It’s not about the nostalgia for me personally; for me, it’s about showing the new songs off, all our albums and work together. Obviously, people love hearing the hits but fans are also loving the new stuff.“

Scott’s career of course started with Space. So what is the difference between the band and
touring as himself?

“The biggest difference between full-on Space and acoustic versions is showing the songs work stripped down,” Scott says. And, to be fair, they do!

And what does the future of touring look like for Tommy Scott? Is he still looking forward to touring after this 25-year mark?

“The thing I’m most looking forward to about the future is always the next song I write, and still keeping Space fresh.”

If you’re a fan of live music, Tommy Scott’s gigs are the place to be. Not only is he a marvellously talented artist, but he is also a showman. Funny, interactive and open; you are guaranteed to be entertained!

Roosa Herranen

From the moment she arrived in Brighton, Roosa knew this was the place to be. Her love of arts and culture, seaside living and inclusivity meant the city felt like home. When she’s not walking around town and admiring the sights, and the waves and the quirky little shops, she’s writing and creating. Originally being from Finland, there are things about Brighton & Hove that still surprise her - in the best possible way of course! After ten years in England and five of those in Brighton, she couldn’t imagine living anywhere else than here.
