Brighton Fringe 2025: The Beauty Of Being Herd

Ruth Berkoff tells We Love Brighton about her Brighton Fringe show The Beauty of Being Herd.

Please tell us about your show:

The Beauty of Being Herd is an award-nominated heartfelt comedy show with original songs about a woman who’s decided to live as a sheep. It’s bonkers and fun, with a lot of heart. There’s frollicking, a rave, and no shortage of sheep facts. At its heart, it’s a story of loneliness and the search for connection, but all wrapped up in a load of fun and nonsense, and of course, with knickers on the head. Audiences have said lovely things about it: “A beautifully balanced performance that veers from warm and funny to tender and painfully honest” (Reviews Hub)

Who is your show for?

It’s for anyone who’s ever felt like an outsider. It’s definitely got a neurodivergent vibe, but it’s also for fans and lovers of clown-like nonsense and homemade costumes. It’s for anyone who wants to feel a sense of connection. It’s in an 18+ venue, so no kids. Soz.

Why should people come and see it?

To be thoroughly entertained for an hour. To laugh a lot. To frolic and have fun and feel less alone by the end of it. There’s some gentle, optional audience interaction, so it’s a lot of fun.

Have you performed at the Fringe before?

No, never! I’m excited!

What do you love about Brighton Fringe?

The range of performances is great. It’s massive, there’s loads of comedy and the people I’ve met online so far have all been really welcoming.

What do you love about Brighton?

Brighton is unlike anywhere else in the country – such a fun mix of misfits and creatives and I love that! Also, I live in Leeds, which is miles away from the sea, so I’m really looking forward to daily dunking.

Are there any other shows you are excited to see?

Siblings – Dreams in Progress. I’ve been wanting to watch Siblings for years – Maddy was at Gaulier at the same time as me. Other shows that look great are: Jaz Mattu – Everyone is Free, Ozzy Algar – Speed Queen, Jennifer Jordan – 3 Minutes inside my Brain, Martha Casey – Cat MILF (a work in progress).
