Waltzing the Blue Gods In Brighton

Waltzing The Blue Gods, recipient of the prestigious Eastern Eye Award for Dance 2024, is a unique two-part performance by the Jaivant Patel Company that blends autobiography and fantasy, exploring themes of faith, sexuality, and cultural identity. This event will take place on Sunday, August 4th, 2024 from 6 PM – 7:30 PM.

A Journey of Self-Discovery Through Dance

Choreographed by the award-winning Jaivant Patel and Urja Desi Thakore, Waltzing The Blue Gods delves into Patel’s journey as a British-Indian man coming to terms with his homosexuality. The performance reimagines the symbolism of Hindu gods Shiva and Krishna, weaving a narrative that is both personal and profound.

This performance is a celebration of Kathak, a North Indian classical dance form known for its storytelling elements. Expect beautiful, intricate choreography accompanied by soulful music composed by Alap Desai. Live musicians Yadav Yadavan, Vijay Venkat, John Ball, and Sahib Sehmbey will be there to fill the room with heartfelt melodies.

This event is perfect for anyone interested in contemporary dance, South Asian culture, or the exploration of identity. The show is for anyone aged 11 and up.

Tickets are priced at £12 (and £8 for concessions tickets)
