There are many activities often associated with bucket lists that often seem overhyped. Swimming with Dolphins can be stupidly expensive and often proves not to be all it’s cracked up to be. Going to a classic holiday destination is often underwhelming.
The extreme disappointment that some feel when visiting Paris can be so bad it’s recognised as a mental health condition known as Paris Syndrome, that along with a host of mental symptoms can get so bad it induces vomiting.
But, in answer to the question ‘Where am I going with this?’ one common bucket list item that almost always provides an unbelievable memory is the first activity on the mind of any would-be adrenaline junkie: Skydiving. There’s absolutely nothing like it, with many so surprised and thrilled after the experience that it becomes a regular occurrence.
It’s certainly not an activity for the faint-hearted, but then I doubt you’d have clicked on this article if you weren’t at least somewhat interested in some high-altitude thrills.
When it comes to Skydiving near Brighton, you aren’t exactly spoiled for choice, but if you read on you’ll find information on the closest skydiving drop zone and where to do another thrilling high-altitude experience; Paragliding.
Skydive Headcorn in Ashford
During your descent at 12,000 feet, you’ll be subject to breath-taking views of the English countryside, as you experience gravity’s might. After launching the parachute, your ability to appreciate the views will become much improved.
A serene, or terrifying descent, depending on your disposition follows, set against the backdrop of the beautiful county of Kent. Take in the magisterial aerial sights of Leeds Castle, and gaze at the distant shores of Calais across the channel.
Offering training and tandem jumps where you will be strapped to, and assisted by an instructor, to ensure the safety of those just daring to take the leap for the first time. Videos are taken of your descent, letting you take home a physical reminder of the incredible experience. More importantly though, you can use it to prove to all your disbelieving friends you truly did it.
Situated 58 miles from Brighton on the outskirts of the quaint village of Headcorn, the airfield is host to skydiving, catering for both seasoned skydivers and complete novices. It’s sadly the closest option for Skydiving to Brighton.

Blue Skies Paragliding
However, if you’re not entirely set on skydiving, Brighton has its very own Paragliding lessons/flights that take place right over the city of Brighton. Those who are destined to traverse the sky may want to consider this alternative.
Other than being right in the heart of Brighton, one key factor to consider is what you’re getting for your money. For a Skydive at Ashford, you’re paying £275 for 5-6 minutes of actual skydiving.
With a £250 Paragliding flight, however, you can enjoy 40 minutes of airtime circling the many awe-striking cliffs and south-coast beaches. If the 58-mile drive is enough to put you off of skydiving, then Blue Skies Paragliding represents a very interesting alternative.
