7 Roast Dinners In Brighton That Deserve An Award

The great British Roast dinner is arguably our country’s most defining dish. It is the basis for which friends and family all come together on a Sunday lunch (or dinner) time. There are plenty of variations to this iconic dish as well as several roast dinner combination taboos that dare not be attempted. However, at We Love Brighton we are not too discerning when it comes to which roast dinner combination is put in front of us, just go easy on the mint sauce. Here is our list of the best roast dinners Brighton has to offer…

Good Companions

The Good Companions pub in Seven Dials has been serving the best in pub grub cuisine for some time now. Its regular weekday menu is a feast for the eyes and the tastebuds with some of the best burgers in town, but its Sunday roast dinner menu arguably trumps the lot.

Their slow-roast pork belly is a hit whilst their roast chicken, bacon and stuffing is the perfect Sunday lunchtime indulgence. The menu also boasts vegetarian and vegan options in the form of a delightful Goats Cheese, Sweet Potato, and Spinach En Croute and one of the best nut roasts Brighton has to offer.

The Basketmakers Arms

The Basketmakers Arms is a Brighton gem and for good reason. Tucked away in Brighton’s famous North Laine, this pub has long been the destination for that much anticipated post-work pint on a Friday night and is always teeming with custom. The pub’s interior is warm and welcoming, while its menu boasts some of the best pub food in the city.

The Sunday roast served up at the Basketmakers is the stuff of legend in Brighton and it’s easy to see why. A cursory glance at their Sunday menu will get the tongue wagging with the chef’s guest roast menu always serving up something fresh and exciting.

The Roundhill

Those of a vegetarian and vegan persuasion have long felt marginalised when it comes to Sunday roast dinner. However, a plant-based roast dinner is no longer an afterthought thanks to The Roundhill collective, who have been perfecting the very best in vegan roast dinner cuisine for a number of years. The roast dinner at The Roundhill pub is served every Sunday from 12-7 pm and with a seitan “beef” brisket on offer, as well as probably the best nut roast in the city, the menu is a formidable thing to behold. The pub itself is also a disarmingly pleasant place to eat, but beware, the pub is small and can get booked up reasonably quickly on Sundays, so don’t wait around!

The Geese

Located mid-way up a steep hill on Southover Street, The Geese is one of Brighton’s most adored and popular drinking destinations. Don’t let the short climb put you off, the restaurant at The Geese is gastro-pub cuisine at its finest.

Roast potatoes are the understated jewel in the roast dinner crown, and The Geese have possibly the best “roasties” Brighton has to offer. With vegetarian and vegan options aplenty to choose from as well as traditional meat dishes, there really isn’t much to dissuade you from choosing The Geese to wile away that sleepy Sunday afternoon.

The pub’s starter menu boasts such delicacies as cured beef with anchovy cream and boiled egg, while for your main you can sit back and share a roast pork belly for two with a friend or partner.
