A lot of us wish we had more time to do activities other than work or various social activities with friends and family, that usually involve drinking. It’s because of this that it’s easy to feel like there’s not enough time to do anything else, making the concept of yoga one that can be easily brushed off as a luxury out of reach. Luna Wave Yoga is here to show you how you can make time and the benefits you reap when you do.
Located on the first floor of the Eastern Terrace at the Sea Lanes, the simplistic and stylish studio looks out onto the open-air swimming pool, the Volks electric railway, and the coastline itself providing visitors with a picturesque experience.
Created with the belief in the transformative power of yoga on our physical and mental well-being whilst acknowledging that everyone is different, Luna Wave Yoga offers a variety of different styles to suit your needs.
We began our session on a perfect sunny morning, with the bi-fold doors wide open, the distant sounds of the sea, and the swimming pool created a natural almost serene ambiance that immediately promoted a sense of calm. Our session was Vinyasa Flow Open, run by the incredibly talented Annabel Beresford. As I found out, Vinyasa Flow connects movement with breathing and encourages strength, balance, and alignment.
Testifying that we would leave refreshed and revitalized, we were guided by Beresford through a number of poses, some straightforward and others appeared to be straightforward. The effect of both was that we had to think about our body less as a tool but as an extension of ourselves.
The day-to-day of our lives can be distracting and overwhelming, our minds always thinking of the next thing we have to do, book or plan for. In our session, it was impossible not to think of the task at hand, and with each stage of our poses, came a new way to think about our bodies and how we could make our limbs fit into shape. The smallest of movements created the greatest change in these sessions and simply being reminded to breathe in unison with each movement focussed my mind in a new sense of clarity.
If movement isn’t your thing however there are other sessions available. These include but are not limited to, Vajrasati Yoga with Pablo Wilson and Hatha Yoga led by Giselle Douglas-Morris. The studio space also offers a free session for other Yoga teachers giving them the time to practice and develop themselves whilst sessions for 9-14-year-olds called Tween Yoga Club are also available. The aim of the latter; To encourage the younger generation to start their own mindfulness journey and enjoy the benefits of Yoga earlier.
Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience, Luna Wave Yoga can’t be recommended enough. From its superb studio location to its dedicated instructors, you’ll leave in a calmer state than you thought possible, and in a good way, I may have fallen asleep for half a second.
