Tea And Tarot In Brighton: Review

I’m always looking for new things to try in Brighton so the chance to learn more about Tarot cards while enjoying tea and cake on a Saturday afternoon really took my fancy. Tea and Tarot is a two-and-a-half-hour workshop run by Fiona Coffey who trained at London’s College of Psychic Studies.

This was my first visit to the charming Metrodeco cafe in Kemptown and I received a warm welcome from magnetic host Fiona, with an invitation to start getting to know the Tarot cards (Rider-Waite – the gold standard) laid out on the table while enjoying a delicious cup of loose leaf tea.

Seven of us, some flying solo like me and others in pairs, were expertly guided through how to read a card, with a workbook to accompany us and take home. “The magic is between you and what you read into the cards,” Fiona told us.

I was drawn to one of the Major Arcana – The Sun – and as I moved through what I could factually see and what I could intuit, I felt empowered to tap into my own wisdom. This was enriched by using Fiona’s resources and her insight to learn more.

As well as working with the other people in the group to try readings for ourselves and for others, the rich and interesting workshop included a potted history of the Tarot. For example, did you know it started as a card game in Renaissance Italy that evolved for divination?

After a break to enjoy more tea and a scrumptious choice of cakes – with both vegan and gluten-free options – we explored the cards that can be feared by some including The Devil and Death. “There are no bad cards, only badass cards,” Fiona explained. We were invited to make friends with the so-called “badass” cards.

By the end of the workshop, I was enriched by the messages of the cards and others said they found deep resonance with their readings. I am now fired up to keep learning and keep experimenting with the Tarot. I also loved that we got a gift to take home.

Fiona also offers Tarot readings, courses and parties. The Tea and Tarot workshop was £49 per person, with more dates planned on Sunday, March 3rd, Sunday, May 19th and Sunday, September 29th 3 pm – 5.30 pm.
