Located on the Bevendean Recreation Ground, a 15-minute drive from the centre of Brighton, The Blue Lagoon Warm Water Centre offers swimmers swimming facilities at a comfortable and soothing temperature.

The centre’s warm water pools are kept between 33 and 34 degrees which is similar to the average body temperature, providing a relaxing experience for swimmers, especially in the colder months. All four of their pools are designed to feel like a private home pool, completely separated from each other and available for private hire for a truly serene swimming experience.

All of The Blue Lagoon’s pools are 8 by 10 metres long and 120cm deep with a seating shelf around the outside of the structure tall enough to sit comfortably at the edge of the pool.

The centre also features both communal and private changing rooms (also heated), and a newly opened coffee shop ideal for waiting for – or unwinding after – your swimming session.

The centre offers open swim sessions (a small group sharing each pool), private hire bookings, excellent baby and toddler swimming classes, private 1-2-1 sessions, and even aqua yoga sessions. To book any classes at Blue Lagoon a membership is required but it does come with perks such as a 10% discount on food and drink, equipment, and open swim sessions.

All in all, The Blue Lagoon Warm Water Centre is a great choice for anyone looking for a little R&R, a luxury warm swim in the colder months, or some aqua therapy to help heal some stiff joints or muscles.

Sea Lanes – National Open Water Swimming Centre

Perhaps a brisker outdoors experience is more your thing, or you’re just looking for somewhere to improve your swimming in the summer months, in any case, the National Open Water Swimming Centre at the Sea Lanes has you covered.

First opened on 2nd June 2023, the Sea Lanes Brighton has transformed the eastern seafront area on Madeira Drive into a hub of cafes, bars, and activities. At the heart of the new development is the UK’s first national open water swimming centre of excellence featuring a heated, 50-metre outdoor swimming pool and all the necessary facilities.

Partnered in operating the new pool is South Downs Leisure, a charity and community leisure trust, which allows members of Sea Lanes to also have access to Southwick Leisure Centre gym, an indoor heated pool, and Wadurs Swimming Pool.

Being in the centre of the newly developed Madeira Drive area means that this pool is a great place to get a swim in, have some food and drink at the nearby cafes and restaurants, and unwind on the beach afterwards.

Aiding in Sea Lane’s vision for creating a happy and healthy community, the swimming pool has begun to feature an annual pop-up sauna from Winter to Spring to allow swimmers using the pool all year round to also feel the health and well-being benefits of a hot sauna to relax those muscles!

Ridgeside Pool

If you’re looking for something more secluded and peaceful to swim with your partner, or even on your own, then Ridgeside Pool might be right for you. Located about 3 miles north of Brighton in the Patcham suburbs, Ridgside Pool is a beautifully decorated private pool available to rent by the hour.

The pool is heated and indoors within its own annexe to offer swimmers total privacy and the tranquil atmosphere is akin to something that you might find at a spa or meditative facility. The pool comes equipped with a changing room, shower, toilet, free Wi-Fi and a Sonos sound system for you to play any music you’d like while enjoying your swim.

The pool welcomes individual swimmers, couples, groups of friends or family, and even children’s birthday parties. The water is maintained around 33 degrees for a comforting temperature great for introducing babies and kids to swimming in a quiet and calm environment.

Rather than the usual chlorine you’d find in a typical public pool, Ridgeside Pool is treated with bromine as a sanitiser which is gentler on sensitive skin. The pool also offers time slots as gift cards, which would make a great present for a loved one in desperate need of some solo rest and relaxation!

The facilities are available only to club members which helps pay for the maintenance of the pool. Once joined, members get a free induction and programme session on how to use equipment and a tailored fitness regime to help with their specific goals.

All members receive a free review every 2 months to keep this plan applicable. Members also get discounts such as %15 off food and drink in the hotel, and you can bring unlimited guests to the facilities for the first month.

The pool is 11 metres long and has plenty of seating around the edge. The sauna and steam room are also poolside for quick transition between activities. The biggest benefit of this pool of course is the location, being in the centre of the seafront makes it easily accessible by public transport, cycling, or even a short walk while you’re in town!
