The Coal Shed Brighton

Founded in 2011, The Coal Shed Brighton has had a fairly meteoric rise to success. Owned by the same people who run The Salt Shed, The Coal Shed has earned a reputation as a premier dining spot in the city. Specialists in grilled and roasted meat and fish with the only Josper oven in Sussex, being fully booked almost every evening of the week doesn’t come as a suprise.

Of course, it’s not just local people who have been singing its praises – the popular restaurant has had glowing reviews in the national press, with The Guardian and The Telegraph both naming The Coal Shed as one of their top picks for dining in Brighton.

Their method is simple: the highest quality ingredients, expertly cooked. As well as a seasonal à la carte menu, they also offer daily specials and a great value express lunch menu. Specialities include a range of 35 day, dry aged Scottish steaks from the North Highlands in Scotland, as well as a wide selection of fish dishes including cuttlefish, oysters, sea bass, bouillabaisse and lobster. Accompanying these main courses, you can expect a selection of inventive appetizers, sides, and desserts.

Owner Razak Helalat said: “We always try to locally source as much of the menu as we can, so it’s a real celebration of both Sussex and British food. From seafood sashimi to Onglet steak, there’s a great range of dishes for every diner.”

The restaurant’s location has also proven popular – conveniently based in the city centre, The Coal Shed is just a short walk from most locations, including just five minutes from Brighton train station and one minute from the seafront.

Inside, diners can look forward to enjoying their meal in a rustic, stylish, relaxed interior. The best part of the restaurant is the open kitchen, where guests can watch skilled chefs at work. The restaurant also features a well-stocked bar, offering an impressive array of wines, cocktails, and spirits to complement your meal.

In addition to the spacious seating areas, The Coal Shed boasts a private dining room which can be booked out for meetings or events. Able to cater for up to 18 people, the room is also equipped with a personal waitress and private music system, and is available for both lunch and dinner sittings.

Open every day from 12pm, guests can visit for Lunch or Dinner up until 11pm from Monday-Thursday with a longer opening time until 11:30 on Friday and Saturday and an early close at 9:30pm on Sundays.
